Forum's Vacation Review

Forum's team has stepped it up a notch with their newest addition to their video collection called 'Vacation'.  This film is full of crazy pow lines, some insane jibs and ridiculous spots that I would of never even thought to hit!  The riders, of course, keep stepping up their game with wall rides to 3s with ease, ridiculous roof gaps and some amazing park shots.  With riders like Pat Moore, Andreas Wiig, and Stevie Bell, just to name a few, this film is definitely worth the watch.

Art of Flight - taking it to the next level

Snowboarding films have always been the same for me.  Clip after clip of sweet mountains, sick rails and some ballsy kids trying to take things to the next level.. but Red Bull has decided to take a different route.  This route not only lead to one of the best snowboarding films of our time, but also to one of the craziest competitions in snowboarding history, The Supernaturals.. but that's for a different post.
Red Bull decided to give Travis Rice, the best big mountain rider in the world, full on ability to take advantage of their heli's and planes and travel anywhere in the world to film.  He then picked a handful of amazing riders and set eyes to massive peaks in remote places.  With the same type of Cineflex cameras that filmed Planet Earth, this film is not only beautifully picturesque, but takes backcountry riding to the next level.  Dangerous scenes, volcanos, avalanches, and a hint of global warming, this film is definitely worth the watch.

Oh.. and let's not forget that the entire soundtrack is absolutely killer.

Go Big or Go Home

There's just something about fast speeds, big airs and beautiful scenery.. especially filmed from a helicopter.  Now if only I could just jump out of one.

Health Tips to Keep You Riding

Blowing your ACL is one of the worst things to happen to you in the beginning of the season.  Sadly, I did it this year.  Basically, your out riding for the rest of the season, have to go through a grueling knee surgery, and prepare yourself for a month or so on crutches and 6-9 months of recovery and rehab time.  Say goodbye to surfing your summers away, longboarding during the cool nights, and any other kickass activity to do during the summer.  But, by the time winter comes around, you’ll hopefully be able to get back on that mountain, not be nervous about tearing it again and man up to that jump that tore it to begin with.
This is just a horrible journey anyone would have to go through, so I am here to the rescue.  While I am down and out for the season, watching all of my asshole friends post pictures of the sweet time they are having up north and out west, I’ve decided to enlighten you with some health tips to keep you in tip top shape on and off the mountain.  Here are my top 5 health tips to keep you shredding:

1. Be in shape.. always.  If you don’t know why this would be a tip.. then you should never snowboard.  Never.  Plus girls love a guy with a nice bod.. it’s not just a rumor.
2. Use the right gear.  This is crucial.  If your boots don’t fit what makes you think your going to be comfortable on the mountain?  What’s the point of riding a small park board if you’re never in the park?  This is where you have to access your riding, your skill, and also your comfort.  Being comfortable on the mountain is key.
3. Protect your brains.  We’ve all done it.. fuck the helmet let’s rock the beanie instead.  This can lead to a serious issue, life and death type of issue.  Wearing a helmet not only saves your brain, but also gives you a little bit more guts to nail that dope rail you’ve been eyeing up.  There’s just something about the security of a helmet.  Why not spend the extra $20 and get the helmet with the headphones as well?!
4. “Never call last run”.  We all know this.  It’s engraved in every true snowboarder’s brain.. and we all say it for a reason.  It’s true!  Most injuries while snowboarding happens at the end of the day... and sadly to say I fall into this statistic.  This is when our bodies are exhausted and are ready to rest.  Once the feeling of exhaustion sets in, just go home.  Get excited… your boots are about to come off.  Just avoid the injury and be happy that you rode the day away.
5.  STRETCH and keep hydrated!  Do this before and after riding.  It will help you loosen up muscles that have been tight before riding, preventing strains, and will help you loosen up the muscles that you just worked out while riding.  This can make the next day after riding a lot easier to deal with.  You won’t be as sore and will be excited to ride the next day.  If you’re at a hotel, take advantage of the pool and hot tub facilities… they come in clutch and top off a day of riding.

These top 5 tips hopefully will help your riding and keep you in tip-top shape for the mountain.  So go shred that pow, hit the park and have some fun.. while I’m here, watching snowboarding films and trying to walk again.

Awkward Introductions

Ehem..

Well hello!  Thank you for deciding to visit my blog.  I guess this is the part where I reveal some information about myself in hopes to make you feel like you actually know me, and I'm not just a virtual face on the inter webs.

My name is Christine, but of course on here, I'm Lady Fakie.  I am 23, a student at Rutgers University and a bartender at the Wonder Bar and The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ.  I am studying Communications and Public Relations, in hopes to one day be able to become a brand rep or some other kickass PR job that I will personally enjoy.

I love rock and roll and everything that comes with it, late nights and whiskey fights.

I have a serious snowboarding issue that has been put on hold since I tore my ACL in January.. life has seriously been a drag since then and I have been fiending fresh pow under my feet, my shred stick and a enormous mountain to ride.. but now it's all about rehabilitation and remaining positive.

Okay.. enough about myself.  I just want to start blogging already!  So get comfy, pour yourself some Jack Daniels on the rocks and read what I have to say.
